Lack of Attention
- Disorganization: It is difficult to do his work in an orderly manner.
- Hyperactivity: There is a constant need for movement at a young age.
- Impulsivity: Inability to wait, impatience. Blindness, acting on impulse, acting without thinking.
Types of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
There are 3 subtypes of ADHD (these are different ways of being seen):
1) Type where only attention deficit is seen
2) Type where hyperactivity and impulsivity are prominent
3) Mixed Type
Causes of Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder
- Genetic factors
- Psychosocial factors
- Structural changes in the brain
- Neurochemical factors
Why has attention deficit increased today?
These numbers may partly explain why the issue has attracted a large audience of patients and doctors, and the media bombardment from various professional and therapeutic industry groups who want to get their share of the same pie.
It is imperative to protect the client from any propaganda that may come between them and the psychologist, and to make our thought processes regarding diagnosis and treatment in the best interest of the patient. What is our duty then? On the one hand, to produce original knowledge, to test what we know over and over again, to generate new questions and seek answers. On the other hand, to use information produced according to the scientific method to meet the needs of our patients.
To go back and filter what we have learned in the clinic through scientific thought. Haven’t we been trained to do this?
